If
one of your teeth becomes injured or diseased, it can often be saved
through a specialized dental procedure known as a Root Canal Treatment.
The Root Canal Treatment involves the removal of a tooth's pulp, both
in the pulp and in the root canal, then the root canal(s) is cleaned
and shaped to a form that can be filled; and the root canal(s) is filled
with biocompatible material usually gutta-percha and then sealed. The
treatment may involve one or more visits; and some teeth may need to
be crowned or just an ordinary filling.

| Periodontics (Gum Treatment) | |||||||
Periodontal
disease is an infection of the tissues surrounding the teeth which is
caused by bacteria found in plaque and calculus. These bacteria release
toxins that can damage the gum and surrounding bone. In the beginning
stages, this disease is painless; but as it progresses, bleeding, swollen
gums, bad breath, and shifting teeth become more obvious. The patient
will feel no pain or discomfort until this disease reaches the advanced
stage; therefore with periodic check-ups, the dentist can early detect
and treat it. The method and cost of the treatment depends on the type
and severity of the disease.
Gingivitis is the early stage of the Peridontal disease. At this stage, the infected tissues are reversible; and the treatment is not complicated. This early stage treatment involves thorough cleaning (scaling) and good home care. Also, oral hygiene instruction will be given to the patient followed by regular visits for oral hygiene maintenance in intervals every six months.

| Orthodontics | |
Orthodontics is the branch of dentistry that specializes in the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of dental and facial irregularities (bad bite or malocclusion). The practice of orthodontics requires professional skill in the design, application adn control of corrective appliances, such as braces, to bring teeth, lips and jaws into proper alignment and to achieve facial balance. Most malocclusions are inherited, but some are acquired. Inherited problems include crowding of teeth, too much space between teeth, extra or missing teeth, and a wide variety of other irregularities of the jaws, teeht and face. Acquired malocclusions can be caused by trauma (accidents), thumb, finger or dummy (pacifier) sucking, airway obstruction by tonsils and adenoids, dental disease or premature loss of primary (baby) or permanent teeth. Whether inherited of acquired, many of these problems affect not only alignment of the teeth but also facial development and appearance as well. In general, active treatment time with orthodontic appliances (braces) ranges from one to three years. Interceptive, or early treatment procedures, may take only a few months. The actual time depends on the growth of the patient's mouth and face, the cooperation of the patient and the severity of the problem. |
